A tweet — 280 characters. Search ads: headlines 30 characters, descriptions 90. A page's meta description — about 160 characters before truncation, the title — 50–60. An SMS segment — 160 latin characters. Anything “slightly over” gets cut without warning — the counter removes surprises.
With or without spaces: what clients count
Content marketplaces and clients count differently: “5000 characters without spaces” differs from “with spaces” by roughly a sixth of the volume. We show both figures simultaneously. Reading time uses the average 180 words per minute — the standard long-read benchmark.
Why reading time drives completion
A 7-minute post gets finished far less often than a 2–3 minute one. If the counter shows more than you expected — cut: drop filler phrases, split paragraphs, move details into links. Aim for under 2 minutes for a post, 5–7 with subheadings for a long read.

Yes, they are counted exactly as the platform sees them: emoji count as characters and line breaks add to the total. The number matches what Instagram or an ad platform will count.
How is reading time computed?
At the average reading speed of 180 words per minute, rounded to the nearest minute. Handy for estimating how long an article or post will take while it is still a draft.
With or without spaces — which is right?
We show both figures at once: clients and content marketplaces count differently, so there is nothing to argue about. Both values update live as you type.
Is there a length limit?
Practically none: hundreds of thousands of characters are counted instantly, and the numbers refresh as you type. Enough for a long-read or an entire book manuscript.
Do I need an account?
No, the character and word counter runs in your browser with no sign-up and no limits. An account applies only to the platform's server-backed tools, such as the generative ones.
