Short, readable, carrying the query's main words: /how-to-make-a-site beats /how-to-make-a-really-good-site-yourself-step-by-step-2026. Drop stop words and years (unless part of the query), keep 3–5 words. Search engines bold query words in the address — the match adds clicks.

What are the slug rules?
The output follows the standard slug format: lowercase latin letters, digits, and hyphens in place of spaces and punctuation. Repeated hyphens collapse into one and edge hyphens are trimmed, so the address stays clean.
